Time Spiral

Dominaria lies in ruins. Having survived more than a few cataclysms over the last few millennia, its shattered remains of forests and buildings punctuate a desolate landscape. But the damage inflicted on the plane at the center of the Multiverse is more than skin deep. Strange storms and shimmerings pass over the land, sometimes bringing with them flashes of Dominaria’s ancient past. It’s as though time itself has been shattered. Beings and places from across the plane’s long history blink into existence, often disappearing as quickly as they appeared.

Time Spiral was released in October 2006, and features 301 cards, plus 121 special “timeshifted” reprint cards from Magic’s past. The set also introduces the Flash, Split Second, and Suspend mechanics.

Timeshifted

Timeshifted is considered part of Time Spiral.

Planar Chaos

Dominaria’s temporal fabric is no longer fraying at the edges — it’s ripping down the middle. The time-rifts have not only merged the past with the present, but also splintered the timeline into thousands of alternate histories. These divergent Dominarias overlap with the known world in bizarre ways, combining the familiar with the shockingly new.

Planar Chaos, released in February 2007, is the second set from the Time Spiral block. Featuring 165 black-bordered cards, the set introduces the Vanishing mechanic, an updated version of Fading.

Future Sight

The quest to mend Dominaria’s temporal and planar damage continues. A temporal rift connected to an alternate Dominaria has enabled Phyrexian horrors to cross over into the present day. Freyalise is gone, having given her planeswalker spark and her life to close that rift, thereby protecting her sanctum of Skyshroud one last time.

The third set in the Time Spiral block, Future Sight features 180 black-bordered cards, and introduces several new mechanics, including Grandeur, Lifelink, Reach, Shroud, the Tribal card type, Pact spells, Spellshaper creatures, and Auras with tap abilities. It also brings back a number of mechcanics from previous sets, and puts a new twist on the Suspend mechanic first introduced in Time Spiral.
